  REVIEW:

If you’ve ever wondered what it might be like teaming up television legends Dr. Frasier Crane and Captain Jean-Luc Picard in a battle against evil, well . . . that’s what X-Men: The Last Stand is all about!  (Okay, not really, but almost.)

X-Men: The Last Stand is the much anticipated third movie in it’s series.  The mutants are now faced with a new life altering challenge.  There is now a cure for mutants.  This drives the wedge even deeper between the two rival mutant groups.  As in the first two movies, Professor Xavier (Patrick Stewart) leads a group of mutants who want to hone their skills and add value to society.  Magneto (Ian McKellen) leads the second group of mutants who are determined to conquer normal humans for fear they want mutants eliminated or cured.  The third X-Men movie brings some new and exciting characters to the screen.  Professors Xavier’s group is joined by The Beast (Kelsey Grammer) and Angel (Ben Foster) while Magneto recruits Juggernaut (Vinnie Jones) to help his cause.  A battle-of-all-battles is waged between the mutant groups when Magnito devises a plan to steal the source of the cure and kill all the humans associated with it.  Professor Xavier is determined to save the humans and protect the cure for those that choose to use it.  Both groups face their own mortality when they encounter the mutant Phoenix, who has grown stronger than any mutant in history.  If the Phoenix’s powers can’t be controlled, mutants and humans alike will perish.  The Wolverine (Hugh Jackman) must lead his friends in battle where they must make their last stand…or is it?

Even if you’re not a fan of the complicated world of comic book characters, X-Men is pure thrill.  A variety of diverse characters, a smart concept, and superb visual effects make the movie technically sound, but it’s the masterful delivery of a near-flawless storyline that makes it true movie magic.  Didn’t see the first two in the X-Men series?  Doesn’t matter.  Didn’t want to see this one?  Don’t care . . . see it!  X-Men is what every big-budget Hollywood movie should be . . . seemingly profound and undeniably fun, no matter how irrelevant, absurd, or adolescent the subject may seem.
